BEAUTY BUZZ | Toronto WMC Fashion Week x Maybelline New York – Canada
What an amazing week so far!! I’ve been working with the team at Maybelline New York Canada (official make-up sponsor for Toronto Fashion Week), providing touch-ups for the fashion crowd at the tents. If you’re catching a show, come by for a touch-up with me!
The Maybelline Lounge is fully interactive – once you have your make-up touched up, you’re ready for your own photoshoot in front of a stunning Maybelline backdrop. Your pic is instantly uploaded to either your Facebook or email account…so you have an instant keepsake! I love watching all the fashionistas work the Maybelline Photobooth!
Before you leave the Lounge, there’s also a Maybelline goody to go! Among the products, people are really loving Maybelline’s Baby Lips (awesome lip balm if winter has gotten the better of your pout), EyeStudio Master Precise Eyeliner (an easy-to-use liquid eyeliner for fine, bold lines) and Dream Bouncy Blush (a cream blush perfect for spring)!! These are definite staples in my personal kit too. I will blog more about them at a later date. For now….sleep! (because during the day I’m living my dream!) :)

BEAUTY BUZZ | IMATS shopping list
Here’s a rundown of what I would check-out (and previous experiences!) at IMATS in alphabetical order:
Alcone – best sponges in the business! These are pro make-up artist approved and likely quick to sell-out!
Crown Brush – stock up on your disposables, particularly mascara wands and disposable lip brushes (I use these for making touch-up kits for brides). You can buy in bulk for a great deal. I also buy some brushes, mostly synthetic lip brushes for adding to my kit. When it comes to other face brushes like for eyes, cheeks and powder, I would personally save your money for spending on higher-end brands. I bought some Crown Brushes 3 years ago, and stopped using them early last year – for the low prices I paid though, I would say I got my money’s worth with the couple years of use! (more…)

BEAUTY BUZZ | IMATS Toronto this weekend!
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend and are a beauty enthusiast, you have to check out IMATS (aka the International Make-up Artist Trade Show), an annual event bringing together some of the best brands in the cosmetics industry. IMATS is essentially the equivalent of a make-up-artist being like a kid in a candy store! But of course you don’t necessarily need to be a make-up artist to attend – the event is open to everyone! Tickets can be purchased in advance of the event, or at the door, depending on availability.
At IMATS, you’ll find many professional (and make-up artist approved) brands, some of which aren’t always easily accessible in Canada – all under one roof and often better-priced! Make-up artists can score deals on kit essentials like disposables, brushes + palettes…while all attendees can score some discounts that are usually only available to make-up artists!
I personally am not a very patient shopper (I dread the Christmas shopping crowds and line-ups at the register!). I like to do my research beforehand, make a list and then get-in-and-out as soon as I can! If you’re shopping style resembles mine, here are a couple of IMATS survival tips:
1. Cash is king.
Line-ups are generally a lot longer for credit/debit payments. Bring plenty of cash because i). once you’re there you’ll wish you brought more and ii). sometimes you get better deals for paying ‘cash only’. :)
2. Print out a map + vendor list – much easier than trying to read it on your smartphone. Here I’ll make it easy.
Map: http://www.imats.net/toronto/toronto_floor_plan.php
Vendors: http://www.imats.net/toronto/toronto_exhibitor_list.php
Make your plan of attack and highlight the vendors you want to visit – go to the booths that are usually most popular (i.e. Make-up Forever where most of the good stuff goes on the first day!).
[Recommended products/items will follow in another post] :)
3. Following on that note, go on the first day for best selection.
4. Dress comfortably (shoes included) and also wear your patience hat. It’s a look even I try to don with my time-efficient shopping style. :)
