BEAUTY BUZZ | Holiday Beauty Ideas. What to Give, What to GET!

So there are six official days before Christmas, which means you have six days of holiday shopping left! (Have you entered panic mode yet?!). It’s probably not the best idea to post about these products so close to Christmas, but it’s really reflective of my holiday season preparedness (or lack thereof. I’ll be hitting the malls this week!). If you’re like me and still in shopping mode, check out some of these beauty deals (and really, try to avoid buying them for yourself!).

Focus, Rhia, focusss!

Tarte’s Jewelry Box

Tarte’s Jewelry Box is probably one of Holiday 2010’s most blogged about products…and why?!  …because now this is a gift set!!  The Jewelry Box features 32 eyeshadows, 8 glosses, a full-size mineral bronzer, 5 eyeliners and a detachable chain necklace.  Tarte products are perfect for natural make-up lovers and packed with skinvigorating ingredients.  With the amazing selection of shades at your fingertips, the combinations of looks are endless!  Talk about a gift that keeps on giving!! :)

The Jewelry Box retails for $68 CAD, but the value of the set is well over $800 apparently(!?!!).  What’s not to love?

I’ve played around with this Jewelry Box many a time doing holiday shopping (well, moreso holiday screening!) at Sephora and have come so close to actually buying it (for ahem, myself).  I would rationalize this purchase for myself, if not for already owning a ridiculous amount of make-up! The Jewelry Box is amazing for giving, but also tops on the wish list!  (Hint, hint).

See Joy’s (aka Make-up Junkie) review of this awesome set too!

Sephora Beauty In A Box | Laura Mercier Classic Eye Kit

Sephora is King (well, Queen?) of gift sets.  For this set, Sephora has teamed up with Laura Mercier to bring together some of the line’s best-sellers all in one-handy little eye make-up kit (complete with instructions for use).  Other value kits by Laura Mercier are available too, but unless you’re buying these for yourself (or someone’s who’s beauty regime you’re wholly familiar with), I would suggest against buying products like foundation + concealer that are skin-tone specific and can be hit or miss.  The Classic Eye Kit is a great go-to for an everyday eye make-up look, and also works beautifully for smoky eyes!

The Classic Eye Kit retails for $52 CAD, but actual value of the contents are double (approximately $115 CAD)!

Benefit Her Name Was Glowla

I love this set!!  Love the contents, but also LOVE the packaging!!  I have always been drawn to Benefit’s uber-cute packaging and catchy product names…but I did fall off the Benefit bandwagon for a bit, as the last time I bought Benefit’s High Beam (years now), the product just didn’t blend well (think I might have a bad batch though).  After recently adding Benefit’s Erase Paste (concealer) and Creaseless Eye Creams (cream eyeshadow) to my kit, I’m happily a re-convert!  I did cave and buy this Glowla for myself, and man I’m so glad I did!  The shades are all so universally wearable, and I’ve taken a huge liking to the small tube of High Beam (too bad it’s small!).  My only quip is that the Glowla could benefit from a bronzer to be a complete ‘glow’ set!  Right?!  When you think ‘glow’, you think bronzer, no?!

You can easily achieve a beautiful everyday look with the neutral palette of tones in the Glowla set…but there’s also enough shimmer options in Glowla to get in all those party looks!

(More of a thorough review with Glowla to come!)

MAC’s A Tartan Tale Holiday Collection

I went on and on in this recent-ish post here about how Tartan Tale should be on everyone’s wish list…in fact, I got so caught up in said post that I ended up picking up things for myself.  I particularly love the limited edition eyeshadow palettes and the brush sets.  Amazing value AND even better value if you’re a MAC Pro Member, as of Dec. 18th you can now get 25% off Tartan Tale Holiday Kits!!  (Yeah, I should probably stay away…)

Sephora Beauty in a Box | Make-up For Ever’s Gold Icon

See, Sephora = King/Queen of gift sets!  Another beautiful box kit from Sephora…this time in collaboration with Make-up For Ever.  Gold Icon features a selection of shimmer products for eyes, lips and cheeks that make the perfect gift for someone (or self!), especially before New Year’s.  The Diamond Powder in Gold is a super-fine shimmer so most ages can wear it well without looking like glitter overkill!  Another fave from this kit is Smoky Lash mascara – I typically wouldn’t buy Smoky Lash on its own (as I personally tend to not spend too much money on mascara)…so having it included in the kit is an added bonus!!

Gold Icon retails for $73, but has a value of $115 CAD worth of product!  Get it.

Welcome to my journal and journey as a make-up and hair artist with all the beautiful people and products I encounter along the way.
